I've known for a long time that the physio department in the hospital I work at has a Nintendo WII with WII Fit and WII Sports to help older people get mobile again or just to gently introduce exercise into their lives again after an operation or other hospital admission. However recently someone pointed my attention to the benefits that the WII has had with her autistic child - in fact the positive results have been quite staggering.

I can't say enough about nintendo wii. Thanks guys, keep up the good work! nintendo wii is awesome!
That is great! Alas a game console that can demonstrate that not all video games are a threat to kids and that it can actually help people!!! (The interactivness and the “body moving” is what I liked the most about video games like pump it up, it felt nice to sweat while playing video games!!!)
This really is a useful application of video games in general. Obviously the Wii is more suitable for these kinds of things than other consoles, but I wonder how much more engaging this kind of therapy can become with the development of other motion sensing technology (Natal).
Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it (as does the authoress of the original articles I've pointed to).
The Nintendo Wii is still amazing. It's more than a simple video game console.
